Potential Tropical Cyclone 8 damage estimated $50-$100 million, report shows

NORTH CAROLINA (WWAY) — The National Hurricane Center released a new report detailing that damage estimates were in the $50-$100 million range for Potential Tropical Cyclone 8.
According to the report, very heavy rainfall fell over the Carolinas, especially southeastern North Carolina, with multiple areas receiving of 7 inches or greater from September 15th through the 17th. The storm’s total maximum was 20.81 inches in Carolina Beach on Ocean Blvd.
The system also produced a minor storm surge. The highest observed water levels occurred in Wrightsville Beach and Wilmington, where the NOS tide gauges measured 2.55 and 2.42 ft. above Mean Higher High Water (MHHW), respectively.
There were also two EF0 tornadoes reported in eastern North Carolina which caused minor damage.
The NHC says that more than 100 people were rescued from the flooding, with many roads washed away and over 100 homes destroyed.
