Two UNCW Swim & Dive athletes set to compete on national stage
Fresh off a 'Three-Peat' for the men's and women's teams, two juniors are continuing to strive
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) – Two Seahawks, fresh off another conference championship, will be taking their talents to a national stage.
UNCW junior Cameron Snowden will compete in the upcoming NCAA Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships later this month, Mar. 19-22, in Federal Way, Washington.
Snowden is the first Seahawk to compete at the NCAA Championships since 2021 when Brooke Knisely represented the program during the 2022 meet in Atlanta. Overall, she is the fourth swimmer to reach the NCAA championship meet on the women’s side and the seventh Seahawk.
Snowden qualified for the championship in the 100 Butterfly with a mark of 51.78 seconds at the CAA Championships last week. That mark was a school record, meet record and all-time CAA record. At the CAA Championships Snowden earned gold medals in the 100 Fly and 50 Free.
At the NCAA Championships, Snowden will also compete in the 50 and 100 Freestyles after posting NCAA B qualifying times in those events.
All four days will be streamed on ESPN+.
UNCW junior Makenna Sharpe will compete this weekend, Mar. 9-12, in the NCAA Zone B Championships at James E. Martin Aquatics Center and hosted by Auburn University.
Sharpe, who earned bronze on the 3-meter board at the Coastal Athletic Association championships last week, qualified with a score of 293.80 points in that event. She will also compete on the 1-meter board.
