Woman charged after drugs and children found in car following chase in Columbus County

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A woman is facing multiple charges after allegedly leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase that crossed into Columbus County on Friday.

According to the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office, Quashema Reaves, 25, was taken into custody on Friday after deputies assisted the Horry County Police Department in a pursuit that entered North Carolina on Seven Creeks Highway (NC 905). Authorities say Reaves’ vehicle reached speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour and traveled left of center multiple times as it continued onto Swamp Fox Highway.

The vehicle eventually stopped near the intersection of Swamp Fox Highway and Shug Norris Road. Reaves was arrested without further incident. The sheriff’s office said  deputies discovered three young children in the back seat, none of whom were properly restrained in car seats.

During the investigation, deputies searched a bag in Reaves’ possession and reportedly found a substantial amount of narcotics. Columbus County Department of Social Services was contacted to ensure the safety and welfare of the children.

Reaves was transported to the Columbus County Detention Center, where she was charged with felony flee to elude arrest, child endangerment, and multiple drug offenses. Her bond was set at $187,000.
