Local breweries receive awards from the NC Beer Cup

BRUNSWICK, NC (WWAY) — Several breweries in the Cape Fear area received awards at the North Carolina Beer Cup.

Many breweries were awarded medals for their craft beer.

These awards showcase the craftsmanship of locally brewed beers in the Cape Fear area — one of those breweries was Brunswick Beer and Cider.

Head brewer at Brunswick Beer and Cider, Neil Blake, says he is honored to have received these awards and is proud to see the hard work pay off.

“Yeah, it’s an honor to get those medals for our brewery. It hopefully brings more recognition to the, you know, the quality of beer that we produce over here and the consistent, um yeah, the consistent improvements that we’re constantly making,” said Blake.

Some other breweries that received awards include Flytrap Brewing, Wilmington Brewing Company, Outer Dunes Brewing, Leland Brewing, Mad Mole Brewing and Surf City Brewing.

According to a news release, out of more than 400 breweries statewide, approximately 20 are in Southeastern North Carolina, where the Wilmington/Leland area ranks among the top 25 nationally for craft breweries per capita.
