Wilmington man arrested after fentanyl, oxycodone discovered during traffic stop

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington man is facing multiple drug charges after a traffic stop Friday afternoon led police to fentanyl, oxycodone, and marijuana.

According to a news release, around 4:25 p.m., Wilmington Police Department officers stopped a vehicle in the 4300 block of Market Street after observing the driver, Deshon Rucker, 28, operating without a valid license.

Officers said they smelled marijuana while approaching the vehicle. A search revealed marijuana, plastic baggies, and a digital scale. During another search, officers also allegedly found additional concealed narcotics, including 27 bindles of fentanyl, nine oxycodone tablets, and multiple pressed fentanyl tablets.

Rucker was arrested and faces the following charges:

  • Trafficking Opium or Heroin

  • Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell, or Deliver Schedule II Controlled Substance

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance in a Jail

  • Possession of Marijuana up to ½ oz

  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

  • Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia

  • No Operator’s License

  • Resist/Delay/Obstruct Public Officers

He was transported to the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, where he is being held under a $525,000 secured bond.
