BURGAW, NC (WWAY) — Pender County Emergency Management is closely monitoring tropical activity in the Atlantic and preparing to fully activate its Emergency Operations Center beginning Monday at 7 a.m.

The county says the EOC serves as the hub for county staff and partner agencies to coordinate resources, track storm developments, and communicate with state and federal officials during emergencies.

“Now is a good time for everyone to check supplies and make sure your family has a plan,” said Pender County Emergency Management Director Tommy Batson in a news release.

Officials are urging residents to take steps now to get ready, including:

  • Reviewing emergency plans and evacuation routes

  • Restocking supply kits with food, water, medications, flashlights, and batteries

  • Following updates from the National Weather Service and National Hurricane Center

  • Signing up for safety alerts via the Pender County Emergency Management App or by texting your ZIP code to 888-777 through Nixle Alerts
