Wilmington Police: Man faces drug charges following arrest

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police claim a man was trying to inject drugs into himself near a local business.

Shortly before midnight on October 8th, officers arrested a man on multiple drug charges after he was observed loitering behind a closed restaurant in the 5000 block of Market Street.

Police claim officers saw Eric Henry, 35, of Wilmington, preparing a needle to inject narcotics. As officers attempted to detain him, he allegedly resisted and placed an item in his mouth. Concerned that he was attempting to swallow narcotics, officers intervened and safely recovered the package, which was found to contain six bindles of heroin.

A search incident to arrest revealed additional narcotics concealed in Henry’s clothing, including 27 grams of raw fentanyl, 30 bindles of heroin, and more than eight grams of marijuana. Officers also located three pressed pills, five more heroin bindles, and various drug paraphernalia inside Henry’s backpack.

Henry is facing multiple charges, including:

  • Trafficking in Opium or Heroin
  • Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell, or Deliver Schedule I and II Controlled Substance
  • Felony Possession of Schedule I and II Controlled Substance
  • Resist/Delay/Obstruct Public Officers
  • Obstructing Justice
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Henry was taken to the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, where he received no bond.
