WILMINTON, N.C. (WWAY) — After going perfect in Carolina Coast play during the regular season, Hoggard volleyball did so again in the conference tournament as they took down Topsail 3-2 on Wednesday to take the title.

The set scores were 26-24, 25-16, 21-25, 18-25, 15-6.

After going up 2-0, the Pirates came back to force a 5th set just like they did in the 2024 title game that Topsail ended up winning.

Hoggard led 3-0 before the visitors tied it up. The Vikings then ended the match on a 12-3 run to close things out.

Norah Davis led Hoggard with 18 kills. Second on the team was Ellie Keene with nine while also registering 18 digs and three aces.

This is Hoggard’s second conference title in three years. Just like in 2023, they swept their conference slate to do so.

“I think it shows that we’re a powerhouse program and we’re always in it to win,” Keene said. “Especially losing to this team last year in a reverse sweep, and that almost happened again. We really had the energy and the drive to fight back. This match had a lot more on it for sure because it’s conference championships. Everything else in the season doesn’t matter. What matters is that we show everything out on the court and that we win.”

“We’ve worked really hard as a team,” Davis said. “I think that showing up at every practice and being there for each other, even on the hard days, we really all did that and it really shows in a time like this where it’s super crucial for all of us to come together. I think it was all our hard work from the season really paid off in this last game.”

NCHSAA playoff brackets will be revealed on Thursday with the opening round being held Saturday.
