Realtor gives rare look inside of the Dawson’s Creek house
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — One of the most famous homes in Wilmington is hitting the housing market, with an eye-watering price tag.
Millions of Americans might recognize the outside of this house, located off of Head Road, along Hewletts creek in Wilmington.
It’s exterior was used as the home of Dawson Leery, the main character of the hit 90’s TV drama, Dawson’s Creek.
Scenes for the show were shot outside the house, on the screened-in porch, and along the dock, but any inside scenes were shot on a sound stage.
Only a few items remain as a reminder of the house’s use in the show.
“You’ll see, the paneling in here, that’s something that Dawson’s Creek put up back in the day. And the curtains. Oh, the curtains.”
“So this place right here is where Joey would have come up to the windows and she would have climbed up a ladder onto the second floor.”
Originally built in the late 1800s as a summer home, it has belonged to the same family since it’s construction.
The 3 bedroom, 3 and a half bath house is listed for more than $3 million as is, but realtor Jill Sabourin said many people are reaching out to see the house because of the show.
“I have literally had hundreds of people look at it on my website,” Sabourin said. “Mostly I would imagine just to see the inside and to see the listing itself. We had several showings over the weekend and you know, those were not Dawson’s Creek interested people.”
Owner’s Cissy Russell and her brother John Shannon felt it was time to sell, but Shannon said the show is not what he’ll remember most about the house.
“It was a family gathering place, where people would come, you know, from however far flung they were and come and stay for a week or two, a lot of times,” Shannon said. “And we would have these great family dinners.”
Sabourin said several people who have seen the house are interested in renovating and updating it.
She has known Cissy for many years and said the home has a special feel about it.
“We sat out here often and talked about all of the things that happened on this porch. And you know, we’ve always known about it, so it’s, yeah, it’s definitely part of the mystique of this house.”
