Package pickup problem sparks conflicting accounts in Leland

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — An update on a story we aired last week about a Leland women who said she got the run around from the post office on a missing package.

We knocked, no answer.

Amber Marco wouldn’t answer her door but certainly was willing to talk just days before Christmas.

“I still don’t know where this package is,” said Marco.

Marco notified WWAY that she lives on Pinecliff Drive, point four miles from her mailbox, which she says is too small to for certain packages.

Last week, she received a redelivery slip telling her to pick up her package not at the Leland post office, but at Market Street in Wilmington, far from her home.

“She said you can’t even pick up at this location. She said come back tomorrow,” said Marco.

After the report aired, WWAY got a call from a postal service carrier who wants to remain anonymous.

She identified the woman in our report as one who confronted her on Rife Way in Leland, seven days before the piece aired.

“She started cussing me out telling me I better give her her… package or she was going to… so I’m like okay well now I can’t sit here and talk to you.”

The postal worker claims that then, a gentleman arrived on Rife Way claiming that his package was in her truck and proceeded to yell profanities.

“He just started screaming and hollering at me about… telling me if I didn’t hand him his package right then, he’s going to kill me.”

The postal worker claims it didn’t stop there and that the woman followed her for 20 minutes down the street in her vehicle.

“She followed me and was staying so close on me that I couldn’t even see the front end of her car.”

Scared, she called her supervisor, who notified law enforcement.

WWAY obtained the incident report that claims there was a quote disorderly subject on Rife Way who was communicating threats.

It names the postal worker but does not identify an assailant.

There was not enough evidence found, and the case was closed.

We asked Amber Marco for comment, which she told WWAY that she had no idea what we were talking about.

We also don’t know if Amber Marco ever received the package we originally reported on.
