FOCUS Broadband warns customers of scam calls and fake technical support numbers

SHALLOTTE, NC (WWAY) — FOCUS Broadband is alerting customers of multiple ongoing scams including phone calls and misleading online search results.
The company says they’ve received reports that customers are getting calls from sales agents claiming to be FOCUS Broadband representatives. Scammers attempt to obtain personal and account information by providing false information about services or telling people the company is going out of business. The information is then used to cancel or make changes to people’s accounts.
Scammers are also using Google Search sponsored ads to trick customers into calling a number they think is FOCUS Broadband but is really a third-party call center. This is when people are told FOCUS Broadband and Spectrum and affiliate companies. The scammers try to get personal information to switch the customers to Spectrum.
FOCUS Broadband wants to remind customers they’ll never call from toll-free numbers and will call from a North Carolina area code. They’ll also never tell customers they’re required to switch to another provider or request personal or account information during unsolicited calls. Lastly, their call center is based in the United States and calls are not handled by third-party call centers.
Customers should verify phone numbers by visiting the official website or by looking at their billing statement. If you are unsure if the call is real or not, FOCUS Broadband says you should call them directly with their official contact information.
