GE Vernova Hitachi expands partnership with CFCC

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — After receiving a donation from GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy, Cape Fear Community College announced the expansion of partnership is leading to the re-naming of a lab.
The college’s Nuclear Maintenance Technology Lab will now be the GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Lab.
Fund from the donation support the Nuclear Technology program at CFCC preparing students for careers in energy production, plant maintenance, and nuclear safety.
“GE Vernova Hitachi’s partnership has been vital to the success of our Nuclear Technology program,” said Jim Morton, CFCC President. “Their continued investment ensures that our students are trained on state-of-the-art equipment and have the resources they need to succeed in a field that is critical to our region and the nation.”
Since the creating of the GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Technology Scholarship in 2015, the company has supported 53 CFCC students, contributing more than $100,000 in scholarship funds. This year alone, the college says, 11 students have received $3,000 each to help advance their education.
Since 1993, GE Vernova Hitachi has donated nearly $400,000 to Cape Fear Community College.
“Scheduled outages and plant modification work are essential to keeping nuclear power plants running safely and reliably,” said Todd Fischer, GE Vernova Hitachi Operations Leader. “As the industry faces a growing shortage of skilled technicians to perform these complex tasks, we are excited to partner with CFCC in addressing this workforce gap.”
