“Souls to the Polls”, a powerful way to vote as a community
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)– The primary election is less than two weeks away, and one organization is working to get more people to come out and vote.
On Sunday, the New Hanover County branch of the NAACP invited the community to participate in the “Souls to the Polls”, a civic engagement walk from Saint Stephen AME Church to the voting area at Cape Fear Community College McLeod Building.
Alongside the gathering of dozens of people, there were candidates like Salette Andrews and Rob Zapple, who were at the walk.
Forest McFeeters, Political Chair of Gamma Kappa Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, says their mission is to make sure every eligible voter has the opportunity to vote and make sure their voices are heard.
“There is no more important thing you can do in your community than to be involved in your political process, so that your voice can be heard,” said McFeeters. “If your voice is not heard through vote, you have no right to complain.”
After the march, the community gathered at Eagle’s Dare to reflect and celebrate.
