Island Men Mac & Cheese Festival returns to Carolina Beach this weekend

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — A popular food competition returns to Carolina Beach this weekend as dozens of local cooks prepare to compete for the top prize at the Island Men’s Mac and Cheese Festival.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, March 21, at Good Hops Brewing. VIP entry begins at noon, with general admission opening at 1 p.m. The festival runs until 3 p.m.

Organizers say the event will feature about 35 entries from local restaurants, professional chefs and home cooks. Participants will compete in several categories, including traditional, meat, spicy, seafood and vegetarian.

Attendees will sample dishes and vote for their favorite using a QR code system, with the winner receiving the Golden Noodle Trophy. Second- and third-place finishers will also be recognized this year with silver and bronze awards.

Rob Bramhall with the Island Men said the event has become a community tradition that combines food and fundraising.

“It’s an opportunity,” Bramhall said. “We have restaurants, professional chefs, mom and pop, and everyone’s bringing out their home recipe.”

Organizers said proceeds from the event support local charities and youth-focused initiatives, including scholarship programs and organizations such as Little Pink Houses, Martha’s Kitchen and Ocean Cure.

General admission is $10, while VIP tickets are $25 and include early access. Organizers said tickets can be purchased online or at the event, and a limited number of spots remain for those interested in entering the competition.

The event is open to the public, though organizers note that pets and strollers will not be permitted.

Tickets can be purchased here.
