WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The University of North Carolina Wilmington will host a STEM Expo next month as part of the statewide North Carolina Science Festival.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 25 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Watson College of Education Building in Sayed Hall. It is open to students, families and community members.

Organizers say the expo will feature hands-on activities focused on North Carolina’s coast and marine environments. Participants will be able to interact with exhibits led by university faculty, students and community partners.

Activities will include building ocean-friendly engineering solutions, operating a remotely operated vehicle, learning about marine organisms and exploring coastal ecosystems. The event will also highlight topics such as marine science, coastal engineering, environmental technology and ocean conservation.

“Hands-on learning is so important when it comes to STEM because it allows for the application of knowledge,” MarineQuest Director Erin Moran said. “Additionally, when participating in hands-on learning opportunities you interact with others and practice critical thinking and problem-solving.”

Organizers say the event is designed to make science accessible and engaging for people of all ages and abilities.

The event is free and open to the public, and no registration is required. Free parking will be available in the parking garage across from Sayed Hall.
