Columbus County chase ends in arrest, cocaine charges

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A traffic stop during a narcotics patrol in Columbus County led to a high-speed pursuit and arrest, according to the sheriff’s office.
According to a news release, deputies with the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office Vice/Narcotics Unit were patrolling near Tom Sessions Road and Mable Spaulding Road on March 31 when they attempted to stop a vehicle.
Authorities say the driver, identified as Daniel Delech Adams, 49, of Clarkton, fled, leading deputies on a chase.
Investigators say Adams drove at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour and crossed into oncoming lanes.
The pursuit ended on Hallsboro Road North near Rehobeth Church Road, where deputies stopped the vehicle.
According to the sheriff’s office, Adams resisted deputies during the arrest. A detective reported minor injuries.
A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of cocaine and drug-related items, authorities said.
Adams is charged with felony flee to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, felony possession of cocaine, felony maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for controlled substances, and two counts of resist, delay and obstruct a public officer.
He was given a $50,000 secured bond and a court date.
