Boil water advisory for part of Dawson Street and surrounding areas

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — CFPUA has scheduled a precautionary boil water advisory for part of Dawson Street and surrounding areas, starting at 9 p.m. Monday, April 20.
Starting at 9 p.m. Monday, approximately 115 customers will be under a boil water advisory at the following addresses:
- All of the Hillcrest Community
- The 1100 through 1600 blocks of Dawson Street
- The 700 block of South 14th Street
- The 800 block of South 15th Street
- The 1400 block of Wooster Street
- The 900 and 1000 blocks of South 16th Street
Crews will be replacing broken water valves in the area. Customers may experience a temporary service interruption during the work.
Periods of low or no pressure in the water distribution system increase the potential for back siphonage and introduction of bacteria into the water system.
When under a boil water advisory, customers are asked to boil their water for one minute, then allow it to cool prior to consumption. Alternatively, they may use another water source such as bottled water.
Consumption includes drinking, brushing teeth, making ice, food preparation, fruit and vegetable washing, pet consumption, and the preparation of baby formula. Customers do NOT need to boil water prior to using it for showering or bathing.
Before a boil water advisory is lifted, CFPUA lab staff test the water to ensure it is safe to drink.
