City of Wilmington seeks input on design for newest park

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The City of Wilmington is asking for the public’s input as planning begins for the city’s newest park.
City leaders say, with funding support from The Endowment and New Hanover County, 25 acres of green space off Greenville Loop Road have been purchased for the development of a public park.
The property is being acquired for park and open-space use, with a mix of preserved natural areas and planned amenities. Officials say specific features will be shaped through a public planning process to reflect community needs, environmental conditions and long-term stewardship. Development could happen in phases based on funding and public input.
Residents are invited to share what they would like to see included, such as more shade, trails, play spaces or other features.
To launch a year-long public engagement process, the city will host a kickoff event Saturday at the MLK Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will include activities, games and food trucks, and design teams will be on site to gather community feedback.
People who cannot attend can share their feedback through an online survey here.
