WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington man is facing several serious drug charges following a traffic stop Sunday afternoon, according to the Wilmington Police Department.

Officers conducted the stop around 12:50 p.m. in the 700 block of Anderson Street after observing a traffic violation. During the initial approach, police reported detecting the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, which led to a probable cause search.

Authorities say the search uncovered a bag belonging to James Ware, 30, of Wilmington. Inside, officers found approximately 10 grams of fentanyl, more than 165 grams of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and cash.

As a result of the investigation, Ware is charged with trafficking in opium or heroin, possession with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver a Schedule II controlled substance, trafficking in methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Ware is currently being held without bond at the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.
