WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Community College will launch a new Biotechnology-Bioprocess Manufacturing program this fall, expanding its offerings in science and technical training, school officials announced.

The Associate of Applied Science degree is designed to prepare students for careers in biotechnology, pharmaceutical manufacturing and related industries.

According to the college, the program will include hands-on training in laboratory procedures, biomanufacturing processes, quality control and technologies used in the production of biological products and pharmaceuticals.

CFCC President Jim Morton said the program is intended to align with workforce demand in the region.

“Biotechnology is one of the fastest-growing industries in our region and state,” Morton said in a statement. “This new program gives students an affordable and accessible pathway into high-paying, high-demand careers while helping meet the workforce needs of local and regional employers.”

College officials said students will complete coursework and laboratory instruction designed to simulate industry environments.

Graduates may pursue entry-level positions in pharmaceutical manufacturing, chemical analysis laboratories, biotechnology production, quality assurance and research support, according to the college.

Cape Fear Community College did not announce enrollment targets for the program.
