SUPPLY, NC (WWAY) — The US Coast Guard Auxiliary will offer an eight-hour boating safety course in Brunswick County next month that meets North Carolina’s state boating education requirements.

The “Boating America” course is scheduled for Saturday, June 13, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation assembly room, 795 Ocean Highway in Supply.

State law requires anyone born on or after Jan. 1, 1988, to complete an approved boating safety course before operating a motorized vessel of 10 horsepower or greater on North Carolina waters. Officials say the course is also taken by some boaters seeking insurance discounts.

The course is taught by certified US Coast Guard Auxiliary instructors and includes instruction on boating safety, navigation rules, emergency procedures, vessel maintenance and state regulations. It applies to recreational powerboats, personal watercraft, sailboats and paddle craft.

Participants who complete the course and exam receive a US Coast Guard certificate and card.

The fee is $35 per person or $30 for two or more attendees. Payment is accepted by cash or check at the door.

Registration is available by emailing CGAuxSafeBoating@gmail.com
