Free document-shredding event planned today in Carolina Beach

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, N.C. (WWAY) — Residents looking to securely dispose of sensitive documents will have an opportunity to do so Friday at a free shredding event in Carolina Beach.
The New Hanover County Senior Resource Center, in partnership with New Hanover County Recycling and Solid Waste, will host a drive-thru shred-a-thon from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mike Chappell Park, located at 501 Dow Road S.
The event allows residents to safely destroy documents containing personal or financial information, helping reduce the risk of identity theft and fraud. Examples include bank statements, medical records, credit card offers and other confidential paperwork.
Shredding services are free, though participants are limited to two boxes of documents per vehicle.
County officials say the shred truck will be on site alongside the county’s HazWagon program, allowing residents to also dispose of certain household hazardous waste items that should not be placed in landfills, including paint, chemicals, liquids and electronics.
The event is part of a series of shredding opportunities hosted throughout New Hanover County this month.
