BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A recent investigation into a series of overnight vehicle break-ins, thefts from motor vehicles and stolen vehicle cases across southern Brunswick County has led to arrests and juvenile charges, according to the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office.

The incidents occurred during the weekend of June 7 and affected several communities, including the Sunset Ridge and Seaside Palms neighborhoods in Sunset Beach, the Stanbury Creek community in Supply and other areas throughout Shallotte.

Investigators with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division determined that multiple individuals traveled through residential neighborhoods during overnight hours targeting unlocked vehicles. In some cases, vehicles were also stolen.

Authorities said surveillance footage, witness statements, physical evidence and recovered property helped investigators connect incidents that occurred across multiple jurisdictions.

The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office worked alongside the Shallotte Police Department and the Sunset Beach Police Department throughout the investigation. Through coordinated efforts and information sharing, investigators identified those responsible and completed criminal charges and juvenile petitions related to the crimes.

Officials credited residents in the affected communities for helping move the investigation forward by providing surveillance video, witness information and other evidence.

The sheriff’s office is reminding residents to take precautions to help prevent similar crimes, including locking vehicle doors, removing firearms and valuables from unattended vehicles and reporting suspicious activity to law enforcement immediately.

Anyone with additional information related to the incidents is encouraged to contact the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division.
