FDA announces recall of select Pedigree wet dog food over possible metal contamination

WASHINGTON (WWAY) — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has announced a voluntary recall of two lots of Pedigree canned wet dog food because the products may contain pieces of metal and plastic that could pose a risk to pets.
According to the FDA, Mars Petcare US, Inc. is recalling two lots of PEDIGREE High Protein Chopped Chicken & Duck Flavor 13.2-ounce canned dog food after discovering the products may contain hard, sharp pieces of metal with plastic. The company said the material could cause injury if consumed.
The recall applies only to the following lot codes:
- 613C3KKCFC
- 613C1KKCFC
No other Pedigree products or Mars Petcare US products are included in the recall.
The FDA advises consumers who purchased the affected dog food not to feed it to their pets. Customers can contact Pedigree for information about obtaining a replacement product.
Mars Petcare said it is working to determine how the affected products entered the marketplace.
As of the recall announcement, the company said it had not received any reports of pet illnesses or injuries related to the affected products.
