Increasing rain chances later today as cold front approaches

(WWAY) — Rain will be back into the forecast over the next couple of days as a cold front stalls over the Cape Fear.

A cold front moves into the region today bringing mostly cloudy skies with scattered mainly afternoon showers and thunderstorms with seasonable highs around 90. The front then stalls over the area Friday and Saturday bringing occasional showers and thunderstorms… some with locally heavy rainfall. Highs will drop back into the upper 80s. Rainfall amounts late this week into the beginning of the weekend could range from 2-4 inches with isolated higher totals which could lead to some minor flooding issues where heavy rainfall develops and lingers. The front will nudge a little east over the ocean waters by Sunday reducing our rain chances down to 30% for late weekend with a high in the upper 80s to near 90. For early next week… it will turn hot again with only a small chance of typical variety showers or thunderstorms and highs heating back up into the lower to mid 90s.

Today: Mostly cloudy skies with scattered showers and thunderstorms… mainly in the afternoon. Humid with a seasonable high around 90. Heat index values reaching from 101-105 in the afternoon. Winds southwest at 10-15 mph. 

Tonight: Mostly cloudy with widely scattered showers and thunderstorms. Warm and humid low in the middle 70s. 

Friday: Mostly cloudy with occasional showers and a chance of thunderstorms. Warm and humid high in the upper 80s. 

Saturday: Mostly cloudy with showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures into the upper 80s.
