18-year-old charged with bringing gun, marijuana onto Southeastern Community College campus
COLUMBUS COUNTY (WWAY) — An 18-year-old Chadbourn man is facing multiple felony charges after authorities say he possessed a firearm and marijuana on the campus of Southeastern Community College.
According to court records, Chrysler Chance Chavis, 18, was arrested Aug. 13 by the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office.
He is charged with:
- Felony possession, manufacture, sale or delivery of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school.
- Felony possession of a firearm on educational property.
- Misdemeanor carrying a concealed handgun.
According to charging documents, investigators allege Chavis possessed marijuana and a black Palmetto State Armory 9mm pistol on the campus of Southeastern Community College. Court records further allege he was carrying the handgun concealed while off his own property.
Court records show Chavis received a $10,000 secured bond and was released later the same day after posting bond.
A public defender has been appointed to represent him, according to court filings.
His next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 3 in Columbus County District Court.
