Wrightsville Beach lip sync, karaoke fundraiser to support Gold Star families
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — A longtime local lip sync fundraiser is returning this week with a new format and a new focus.
The 10th annual event will feature both lip sync and karaoke performances, with proceeds benefiting American Gold Star families, the families of service members who died while serving.
Organizer Ariana Jo Gill said this is the first year karaoke has been added to the event.
“This is our 10th annual event of raising funds through a lip sync fundraiser, and this is the first time we’re including karaoke,” Gill said during an interview with WWAY.
Performers will compete in two rounds and can choose between lip syncing and karaoke. Judges will score the performances, with a $500 prize for the winner and $250 for the runner-up.
Gill said the fundraiser previously operated as Lip Sync for the Cure, but organizers decided to change the focus for the 10th year. She said the idea of supporting Gold Star families was suggested through social media and received support from participants.
The event will be held at the Holiday Inn Resort Lumina on Wrightsville Beach, in an oceanfront event space. Tickets are $50 and include food. Gill said proceeds from the raffle and a portion of ticket sales will go toward supporting American Gold Star families.
Participants can still sign up to perform, including on the day of the event, although organizers encourage advance registration.
