Whiteville woman identified after being found dead inside abandoned vehicle

WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — A Whiteville woman was found dead inside a vehicle last week, and police say foul play is not suspected following an investigation and autopsy.
The Whiteville Police Department said officers responded to the 300 block of West College Street around 1:36 p.m. Aug. 28 after receiving a report of a deceased person inside a vehicle.
Patrol officers secured the scene and began the initial investigation. The department’s Criminal/Narcotics Investigations Division later took over the investigation.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation assisted with processing the scene.
The deceased was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Raleigh for an autopsy, further analysis and positive identification.
Police identified the woman as Matassa Glenette Moore, 49, of Whiteville.
Based on the investigation and autopsy results, police said foul play is not suspected at this time.
The Whiteville Police Department extended its condolences to Moore’s family and loved ones.
