Cape Fear Community College expands hospitality program with new certificates and diplomas

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Community College is expanding its Hospitality Management program with new certificates, diplomas and courses aimed at preparing students for careers in southeastern North Carolina’s tourism and hospitality industry.
The expansion comes as tourism-related employment continues to grow in the region.
According to studies commissioned by Visit North Carolina, New Hanover County ranks seventh among the state’s 100 counties in visitor spending. Tourism-related employment in the county increased by 450 jobs between 2023 and 2025, reaching 7,250 jobs.
CFCC has introduced four new certificates as part of the program expansion:
- Career Development in Hospitality
- Contemporary Tavern Keeper
- The Tourism Professional
- Events Planning Essentials
Each certificate offers specialized training and provides a pathway toward an Associate in Applied Science degree in Hospitality Management.
“Tourism is a major economic driver in our region, and the demand for skilled hospitality professionals continues to grow,” said Pete Doucet, CFCC Hospitality Management Program Director. “These new offerings give students the flexibility to develop specialized skills, advance their careers, and pursue opportunities right here in our community.”
The college has also added two diplomas: Food Service Entrepreneur and The Lodging Professional.
The expanded offerings are intended to help students develop skills for careers in hospitality, tourism, food service and event planning.
Additional information about the program is available through CFCC’s Hospitality Management department.
