A chapter in history: New Hanover County historian appointed to state advisory board

NEW HANOVER COUNTY (WWAY) — A New Hanover County woman has been appointed by Governor Roy Cooper to serve the state.

Dr. Jan Davidson is the Historian at the Cape Fear Museum.

Governor Cooper has appointed her to serve on the state’s Historical Records Advisory Board.

The board works with the State Archives to preserve historical documents and create educational tools to represent the diverse communities throughout North Carolina.

Davidson said she sees herself as a public servant, and it is an honor to be selected.

“I think that the best things that we do are things that are for others,” she explained. “I’m not going out and saving anybody’s life, obviously, but I do think that being able to serve the people of North Carolina is a huge honor.”

Davidson is the second New Hanover County staff member to be selected by the governor to serve on a state-wide advisory group.
