‘A Safe Place’ celebrates year with annual luncheon
New Hanover County nonprofit is fundraising for sex trafficking survivor rehabilitation project called 'The Farm'
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) – ‘A Safe Place‘ held their annual luncheon in the Wilmington Convention Center Thursday to celebrate another year of advancing their mission.
“This is my favorite day of the year,” said Dawn Ferrer. “We get to come together to celebrate what we’ve accomplished but to also thank our community for being supportive all these years.” She adds North Carolina is ranked 9th in the country for human trafficking.
The main project they are working on right now is called ‘The Farm’, where survivors will learn agriculture skills in tandem with rehabilitation.
The organization is always looking for volunteers and is accepting donations.
