A taste of the farm: Myrtle Grove Middle’s special lunch

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Students at Myrtle Grove Middle School in New Hanover County enjoyed a “farm fresh” lunch today as they celebrated the last day of National School Lunch Week with a special “Farm-to-School” event.

Local farmers shared valuable nutrition and healthy eating tips with the students, fostering a connection between food and health.

Myrtle Grove Middle School has established forums where students can voice their preferences for school activities, and many requested this farm-to-school event.

New Hanover County Interim Superintendent Christopher Barnes emphasized the importance of the event, stating, “The farm-to-table concept is how do we help the kids learn how the food gets from where it starts to where they eat it and sort of the cycle of what that looks like, knowing that we are supporting our local growers and farmers as well.”

Students are curious about their food sources. One remarked, “Kids want to know where their food is being brought from or where they are getting it from.”

The menu for today featured products from local growers across North Carolina, highlighting the importance of supporting the community. To view the full menu, you can find it here.
