Ability Garden offers therapeutic gardening for under-served individuals

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Research shows gardening is a therapeutic activity. The New Hanover County’s Arboretum Ability Garden is trying to empower the under-served in the green space.

Plant enthusiasts can support their programming by visiting their monthly plant sale at the NHC Arboretum. It is held every 3rd Saturday throughout the year. Ability Garden participants plant and pot all the plants from house plants to succulent herbs.

Program Associate Lona Popovic says these activities directly benefit mental, emotional and physical health.

“This third Saturday plant sale is essential to allowing us to continue to do that work in the community, help us run our gardening programs and keep the ability garden thriving for another 20 years,” said Popovic. “We’re celebrating our 20 years this year.”

The plant sale will continue to occur every third Saturday except in April, but if you have a green thumb, mark your calendars!

The NHC Arboretum will host the annual Master Gardener plant sale from April 10th to 14th.
