WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Close to 50 celebrities including current and retired major league baseball players and retired NFL and NBA stars will be in Wilmington for the three-day event which will be held November 1st through 3rd at the Country Club of Landfall.

The celebrity invitational, which includes a celebrity reception, an auction dinner and golf, is a benefit to help local people living with kidney disease.

Some other notable celebrities include Ed “Too Tall” Jones, retired Dallas Cowboys standout, Kathy Sledge, from Sister Sledge, and Wilmington’s own Connor Barth, retired NFL.

Willie Stargell played major league baseball for 21 years with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The left-handed slugger was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame his first year of eligibility. Stargell died from kidney disease in 2001. A year later, his widow, Margaret Weller-Stargell created the Willie Stargell Foundation.

The Willie Stargell Celebrity Invitational sold out in record time this year, but there are still ways to contribute to the fundraising efforts and make a difference for those living with  kidney disease. Donations can be made through the Willie Stargell Foundation website.
