Adults, kids sat on massive gator to pose for photos before it was euthanized
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WJCL) — An alligator believed to be the largest ever captured on Hilton Head Island was euthanized Tuesday.
Now cell phone video shared with WJCL details what the gator experienced before it was killed.
According to Critter Management, the male gator weighed more than 1,000 pounds, was more than 12 feet long and was between 80 and 100 years old.
It was found behind Legendary Golf, the putt putt course near Fresh Market, looking for something to eat.
Huge crowds gathered as the creature was wrangled and hauled away on a tow truck.
But before it was taken away, and with its arms tied behind its back, countless adults and children were seen taking turns sitting on the animal’s back, many of them posing for photos.
Harassing alligators, much like feeding them, is illegal under South Carolina state law.
