After 35 years, Shallotte Police Chief to retire July 1

SHALLOTTE, NC (WWAY) — After 35 years at the Shallotte Police Department, Chief Rodney Gause is retiring.

Gause has working at the department for 35 years, but he has been the police chief for 28 years. Gause is set to retire July 1.

Gause said he has enjoyed every minute of his time at the department. He said he has four grandchildren, so he plans to spend some time with his family now.

Gause said over the years, his department has won a variety of awards and recognition. He said he is so proud of what they have been able to accomplish during his time there.

“The one thing I want you to understand, I didn’t get any of the awards,” Gause said. “The department got them, the men and women on the front line. They are the ones that have done the work.”

Gause also said he works with a town who believes in what they do. He said the town has been able to help the police department get all of the equipment they have needed over the years.

“This probably is the best town in North Carolina,” Gause said. “I have the best chief job in North Carolina. I have the best mayor, the best town administrator, the best board in the world.”

Gause said he hopes one of his majors who has been with him for 21 years will take his place, but that has not been determined yet.
