After months and millions Town Creek Park reopens
WINNABOW, NC (WWAY) — The Town Creek Park is reopened after a year and half and about $5 million of renovations.
For Valeria Rance, a Leland resident, the newly-renovated Town Creek Park is a welcomed sight.
“I’m very excited. We needed it. We really didn’t have anywhere to go,” Rance said. “We have more ball fields, we have soccer field, there’s actually a dog park in Leland, finally we don’t have to hike up to Wilmington.”
Rance says it’s a step up from what it used to be.
“It wasn’t so clean,” Rance said.
The park isn’t just cleaned up but activities have been added like playgrounds, fields and a two-mile trail that has workout machines along the route.
Aaron Perkins, Brunswick County Park and Recreation Director, says this renovation wasn’t just about more fun at the park.
“Most of the parks were built in the early 70’s and early 80’s and most of our parks need some type of renovation either for safety issues or for ADA compliance,” Perkins said.
And while this park ended up on the list of those that needed a make-over, the process was delayed.
“Weather was a big setback in this project but overall it’s turned out to be a really good park. People who want to see it should go check it out,” Perkins said.
Emilee Little, who already has her sights on the park as her birthday party location, agrees.
“I am just very happy they fixed it up,” Little said.
Perkins says they are still waiting on the permits to run the concession stand.
