Airport construction causing issues for passenger parking
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — If you’ve been to Wilmington International Airport recently, you’ve probably seen the ongoing construction on the terminal’s curb front and parking lots.
But, for several people who arrived back in Wilmington on Monday, the construction caused an unexpected issue.
Angela Burns flew home after a two-week trip only to find that the lot where she had parked her car had been demolished, and her car was nowhere to be seen.
Burns said her car was towed to another lot at the airport, and she found it, but she didn’t know about the construction in advance.
“Just having communicated to us once we got off the plane, “Hey this is the situation, don’t go out there and be surprised if your vehicle has been moved,” Burns said. “And then having communicated what right they had to do that, I would have also appreciated that.”
Burns said she spoke with airport director Jeff Bourk about what happened and learned that 20 vehicles were towed from lot C to lot E.
But if you are heading to the airport next week, there will be a lot more parking available as around 500 new parking spaces will be added.
Airport director Jeff Bourk said signage had been installed ahead of time to inform passengers when work on the parking lot was to begin.
