WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — An algae tracker was recently deployed on Greenfield Lake to help monitor water quality in real time.

The solar-powered buoy tracks algae and cyano-bacteria levels, turbidity, and air and water temperature.

The city says the data can be used to predict harmful algae blooms that need to be treated and it could limit future algae growth would lead to a clearer Greenfield lake.
