Alleged victim speaks out claiming former NHCSO deputy sent inappropriate texts during DV case
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY-TV) — A woman who claims she was harassed by a recently fired New Hanover County Deputy, Dennis McCall, is speaking out about the trauma of that experience.
The alleged victim, who requested her identity be concealed said McCall harassed her while working with her to serve papers in a domestic violence case against her child’s father.
“And right out of the gate McCall was unprofessional and inappropriate, he had mentioned looking me up on Facebook, saw my photo, commented about that I was hot,” the victim said.
The victim claims she was in an abusive relationship with her child’s father in a warrant for his arrest, documents claim the father violated a protective order.
“The police officers and the detective were not able to find my ex or serve but because of that my ex continues to harass me daily,” the victim said.
In the process of serving the father papers, the victim claims McCall sent “suggestive, unprofessional” text messages stating things like “You just can’t fall in love with me no matter how good I look in a tie” and “You have an amazing smile. Like really amazing.”
“It was very clear that was inappropriate, I kind of used it to my advantage because I really needed to get my ex served so that harassment would stop,” the victim said.
The victim said McCall did nothing illegal and so she was fearful of reporting the harassment.
“I wanted to file a report, but I was just really essentially scared that it would backfire against me,” the victim said.
The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office terminated McCall after an internal affairs investigation. According to the sheriff’s office, McCall’s violations include improper conduct, abused of position, and misuse of agency equipment or resources.
“He just seemed like he had, it was very apparent that he had done it before and it’s so not okay to do that to women who are so vulnerable in situations with domestic violence,” the victim said.
WWAY reached out to the sheriff’s office about these latest claims and a spokesman said they can’t comment on an open investigation.
