WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Alliance for Cape Fear Trees is recruiting a new crew of Tree Stewards who receive in-depth training to care for Wilmington’s urban forest.

Registration is now open for ACFT’s Fall 2025 Tree Steward training, a series of four Saturday classes held in October.

ACFT’s Tree Steward program is designed to equip volunteers with the tools and knowledge to plant, water, mulch, stake, and maintain newly planted trees.

Participants must attend at least three of the following four in-person sessions:

  • Saturday, October 4 | 9 AM–12PM at New Hanover County Arboretum (6206 Oleander Drive)
  •  Saturday, October 11 | 9AM–12PM (location TBD)
  •  Saturday, October 18 | 9AM–12PM (location TBD)
  •  Saturday, October 25 | 9AM–12PM (location TBD)

Taught by certified arborists from Bartlett Tree Experts, Tree Steward training is free.

Graduates of the Tree Steward program commit to at least 4–6 volunteer hours monthly. While no prior experience is required, this program is designed for individuals eager to volunteer their time and energy.

Register now at http://acftrees.org/treestewards.
