American cancels most Friday flights from ILM

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A big winter storm is already causing cancellations and delays at airports across the country, including here in Wilmington.

Wilmington International Airport Deputy Director Gary Broughton said as of late Thursday afternoon, American Airlines had canceled all of its flights for Friday between ILM and Charlotte Douglas International Airport and Philadelphia International Airport. Broughton said American’s flights between ILM and New York’s Laguardia Airport and Delta’s flights to Atlanta are still on schedule at this point.

In a statement on its website, ILM urged travelers to contact their airline before heading to the airport to find out about flight status and re-booking.

Earlier in the day American announced it was cancelling more than 650 flights scheduled for Friday at Charlotte Douglas International Airport Friday. American reportedly will not keep any planes in Charlotte overnight. The airline plans to resume flights to Charlotte Saturday morning.
