Animal shelter cited, director says all issues have been resolved
COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — An annual inspection at the Columbus County Animal Shelter on December 4, revealed several problems at the facility.
Inspection documents signed by inspector Pat M. Scholar and shelter director Joseph Prince show two items in need of correction. The paperwork said the wooden gates on several enclosures had been chewed through and needed to be replaced with a material the dogs could not chew through. It also indicates that two adult dogs were listed on the same impound ticket, however there should be only one animal per impound ticket.
The inspector said that the shelter was clean and there were no visible signs of injury or illness in the animals there. Several animals were due for Rabies vaccinations as well. The shelter has until January 4 to correct the issues found at the inspection.
We spoke with Joseph Prince today. He told us that all of the issues have been fixed. Prince said the animals have all been vaccinated, paperwork has been revised, and the wooden gates have been replaced with PVC pipe.
