Annual Pooch Plunge returns to Wilmington
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Good bye “dog days of summer.”
Wilmington’s Legion Stadium Pool has officially closed to the public, but not for our furry best friends.
The City of Wilmington and the YMCA of Southeastern NC are hosting the annual Pooch Plunge through Sunday. The pool will be open from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. through Friday, and noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Some dogs were afraid to jump in at first but with a little nudge, all pups were able to get a sweet relief from the heat.
“You gotta take baby steps,” Wilmington resident Trevor Darros said. “If you just throw them in they are going to be terrified of the water.”
Darros used this opportunity to get his dog Sweetheart more comfortable in the water. He says being around other dogs makes it a lot more comfortable for dogs that do not get a chance to swim often.
The event is $5 a day per dog.
