Another Chadbourn town council meeting ends early as leadership turmoil continues

CHADBOURN, NC (WWAY) — Another meeting of the Chadbourn town council ended early on Tuesday night.

It was the council’s regularly scheduled monthly meeting, but moments before it started, Mayor Phillip Britt received notifications that half of the board would not be there, with the meeting ending after just 6 minutes.

This comes weeks after Mayor Pro-Tem Tony Jordan called a special meeting to discuss a matter with town personnel, which Britt left early due to policy not being followed properly in setting that meeting up.

Jordan was one of the board members not at Tuesday’s meeting.

Britt said he wants to reassure residents that he always follows the rules when it comes to these meetings.

“If I’m going to be a part of a meeting, I’m going to follow Robert’s Rules of Order, so I can, that’s the reason we didn’t go forward with the meeting last night,” Britt said. “It wouldn’t have been legal, and I am definitely not aligning myself with anything that’s illegal.”

Britt said the town is still looking to fill its open attorney position as the previous attorney unexpectedly resigned during the special meeting.

The town is also trying to find a successor for the town manager, who also announced during the special meeting that he would retire at the end of this month.
