Architects invited to respond to future Wilmington boarding school’s Request for Design Services

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — LINC, Inc. has opened the construction phase of the future home of the Hisan J. Polk Transformation Academy, so architects are invited to respond to provide design services for the renovation.
The decommissioned Wilmington Fire Station 3, at 3933 Princess Place Drive, was transferred to LINC, Inc. specifically for repurposing as a boarding school.
The school will serve as a model for achievement and youth empowerment in the community by providing a culturally and demographically-specific educational curriculum for African American youth, ages 15-18, who have dropped out of public school, but who are committed to attaining their GEDs and construction and/or trade certifications.
The school will be managed by LINC, Inc. Instruction will be provided through a partnership between LINC, Inc. and Cape Fear Community College. A panel consisting of community members, youth development experts, and educators will oversee the implementation of the boarding school plan and its operations.
A Request for Qualifications for Architectural Design Services (RFQ #01) was published on Friday, June 14. The deadline for questions is July 3, which will be answered on July 8, with a deadline for receipt of Statement of Qualifications on July 16 at 3pm. Details and instructions for submitting a statement of qualifications are available online.
