All Star Special anyone? Waffle House reopens in downtown Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Downtown Wilmington’s Waffle House is finally open. The restaurant braved Hurricane Florence for hours, but when strong winds blew off the roof, they had to close.

The diner is finally open today after four months, but the restaurant itself did not receive any direct damage. There was extensive water damage to upper floors, after the roof was blown off. It trickled down to the first floor. The restaurant had to undergo health inspections and fire safety checks before re-opening.

“I’ve been waiting, since the hurricane has been over,” said Jason Dodd, the division manager. “The construction has been taking quite a while. We’re very excited to be here to feed the people of Wilmington once again downtown. ”

Waffle House is known for staying open during severe weather, but 17 stores in the region were impacted by Florence and were forced to close including the North Front Street location.

But, employees remained busy during this break. They were spread across the seven Wilmington locations.
