Around 12,500 gallons of untreated wastewater discharged near Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, NC (WWAY) — The Town of Elizabethtown had a discharge of untreated wastewater near the intersection of McDowell Street and Poplar Street (Hwy 701) on Tuesday.
Around 12,500 gallons was released over nearly 24 hours, with the untreated wastewater entering the tributary of Brown’s Creek in the Cape Fear River Basin.
While repairs are being made, the Public Works Department is pumping the wastewater into a nearby gravity fed sewer that feeds to the wastewater treatment plant.
