‘Art in the Yard’ Brings Local Creatives Together in Carolina and Kure Beaches

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Held in Carolina and Kure Beaches — Art in the Yard is an event that showcases local artisans and their crafts.

Running for four years now, this event is a way for local artists to promote their art to the community while connecting with other local artists around the island.

Treasurer of the Island Arts Council and local stained-glass artist, Beth Carter, says that the event has grown every year.

“We grew, the first year we had 39 artists, and we are now up to 60 plus artists, um with a demand for a few more actually,” said Carter.

Carter also noted that this event highlights the diversity of art scattered across the island.

“It’s painting, and pottery, we have fabric arts, glass arts, uh it’s really quite a cool collection of different stuff,” said Carter.

Another artist who participated in the event was Bruce Troutman, a local wood turner.

He says this is a great way for him to showcase one of his favorite hobbies.

“I am one of the very few wood turners in the area and I am the only wood turner in the Island Arts, so it gives me a chance to show and display my product,” said Troutman.

Troutman says the event gives local artists an outlet to connect with one another and share their diverse creations.

“It gives me an opportunity to be involved with other artists, which is fun because everybody has their own technique,” said Troutman.
