Art in the Arboretum attracts thousands
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover Arboretum opens its doors this weekend for art lovers as the arboretum celebrates its 25th anniversary.
The art in the arboretum will attract thousands of folks all across the area this weekend with lots of paintings, pottery, and even metal sculptures all on display and for sale.
This annual showcase of fine art and artisan pieces are produced mostly by artists in the state, but this year is a special one for the arboretum by celebrating 25 years.
Anita Jacques is a local artist whose passion came from her childhood.
She says this event is the buzz around the art community.
“I went around trying to recruit other artists to the show and a lot of them were saying “oh, I’ve heard about that show” and “oh, I want to be in that show” and “that’s an excellent show I’ve heard,” Jacques said.
25% of sold artwork goes to fund arboretum projects and maintenance of the garden.
You can check out the showcase Saturday and Sunday from 10 to 4 pm.
Admission is 5 dollars for adults and free for children under 14 years old.
There also will be a celebration of the 25th anniversary Saturday at 4 pm with food and live music.
